La Mariposa partners with Art Trek, a not-for-profit art instruction program that brings professional art instructors into the classroom to teach hands-on lessons with art. Each monthly session includes a background lesson on a particular type of art — a method, technique, era or artistic style. Then the students explore their creative side, applying the lesson to create a finished piece of art using a variety of materials and techniques. Projects include painting, drawing, sculpting with clay, cutting mosaics and using pastels.

Some of the monthly Art Trek projects will be kept at school for display at the Open House Art Showcase in May, then sent home at the end of the school year.
